Description
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not a children’s novel but a two-part stage play based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. A script book version of the play was published for readers.
Plot summary
Set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the story follows a grown-up Harry Potter, now an overworked employee at the Ministry of Magic and a father of three. The plot primarily focuses on his strained relationship with his youngest son, Albus Severus Potter.
  • A new generation’s rivalry: Albus struggles under the weight of his family’s legacy. At Hogwarts, he is sorted into Slytherin and develops an unlikely friendship with Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Harry’s old rival, Draco Malfoy.
  • Tampering with time: The boys get their hands on an illegal Time-Turner and attempt to alter a past event by saving Cedric Diggory from being killed during the Triwizard Tournament. Their actions, however, create a catastrophic ripple effect, altering the present and creating a dark new timeline where Lord Voldemort is victorious.
  • The stakes increase: While trying to fix their mistakes, Albus and Scorpius discover that a sinister figure is manipulating them. The antagonist, Delphi, is revealed to be Lord Voldemort’s daughter, who wants to resurrect her father by preventing his murder of the Potters.
  • A race against time: As the timeline grows increasingly distorted, Harry and his old friends, along with Draco Malfoy, must confront both their pasts and their children’s present. The fathers and sons must work together to find the boys and stop Delphi from forever changing history.
  • The consequences of choices: The play explores themes of legacy, parenthood, friendship, and the dangers of dwelling on the past. Ultimately, both Harry and Albus learn that darkness can emerge from the most unexpected places
